Short Statement

Everyday life routines, relationships and the less than extraordinary family life are prominent themes in my practice. I am occupied with how we use our time on a daily basis and how we choose to visually document key moments in our lives. The combination of place and familiar emotional experiences that connect us on an even ground are important aspects for exploration. I am interested in how the relationships we have can connect us emotionally to certain spaces and what happens when one of these is taken away or left behind. I explore these themes in a variety of mediums including painting, drawing, sculptural installations and photography.

The connection between the black and white found photographs and my drawings and paintings is the quietude and their slow release. The process of working on an intricate drawing where lines are repeated one after the other, allows the time to build stories and constructively analyse one’s own actions on a daily basis. The bridge between my use of the found photography and the other mediums in which I work, enables me to build a personal narrative of where I position myself at different periods in my life. The photography becomes a platform to project onto and clarify past experiences. Whereas the meticulous drawings are a way to process familiar human conditions and emotions in which many people find themselves trying to handle each day.
